GRAND CHAOS: IS THERE GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA

80% of the noisy Nigerian citizenry who religiously hail Nigeria as indissoluble live in unmitigated slums:

Drainages not flowing;

Unplanned towns

Ponds and puddles in the streets breeding mosquitoes and pathogens

Government stays absent while shanty towns develop and then responds by demolition;

People determining the town-planning patterns arbitrarily as government stays aloof;

Marsh all the way to people’s homes once they exit the Federal or state highways

Churches and mosques noisy in the neighborhood–right amid people’s abode;

Undefined waste disposal systems: dumped in street center for subsequent disposal;

Unsealed drainages;

Debris accumulation in open drainages;

Nauseating and stinking drainages;

Buildings within cramped spaces with attendant poor ventillation;

Pervasiveness of unapproved buildings;

Significant humber of Humans living in make-shift shacks–a.k.a “batchers”,

Building soakaways next to boreholes,

Littering of the neighborhood with uncensored boreholes;

Acquiring your own security,

Building own house from start to finish and with minimal government planning;

Buying own electric poles and mounting indiscriminately, Paying DISCOs for unsupplied power,

no locality policing: police visits to make fund-raising arrests, Poor access to justice,

Poor house spacing,

Constituting government on your own street as you contribute to electrify it and build its road …………………………………………..

                              God forbid!

Even Equatorial Guinea is not this chaotic. Zimbabwe in all its travails is not this chaotic.

          PREBENDALISM HAS KILLED NIGERIA.

We cannot run a civic society here–we have failed!

We must restructure the polity to make the government next to the voting man and citizen functional.

I could not come from a parlous locality and yet come from a powerful country. If I did then I must be insignificant to the state and the state must be satisfying some ulterior interests–not mine.
